When the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham invested in a new IBM printer they wanted to keep running legacy jobs as well as gain flexibility in printing on the new system. RedTitan's document designer is a single system for both creating new jobs and maintaining legacy forms.

Flexible AFP and legacy printing for local authority

Their new IBM printing system brought advantages to the Barking and Dagenham council, including higher speed printing for cheques and payslips. But there were challenges in how to maintain old print jobs without setting up the documents again from scratch. Existing OGL forms were read straight into the RedTitan page designer without time wasted on recoding. These documents can now be edited and kept up-to-date, with output as OGL for printing on an Océ printer or as AFP for the new IBM InfoPrint2000.

New dynamic documents are created using the full features of RedTitan's page design tools which allow complicated layouts and interactions with the data from the Oracle database. The advantage here is that documents can be output as AFP for the IBM printer or as PCL for HP-compatible printers. So cheques, for example, can either be printed at high volume on the production printer or as one-off jobs on local printers: the single source file on the RedTitan system guarantees that the same results are achieved on any printer.
