Margaret Westlake will direct a day for singers and for players of
cornetts, sackbuts, curtals, recorders and strings on the theme of
the Virgin Mary, studying late 16th century Marian antiphons by Tomás
Luis de Victoria and Ascanio Trombetti and the Magnificat Octavi Toni
by Andrea Gabrieli.
Margaret will be known to many EMF members as a very experienced performer
and teacher of both vocal and instrumental music, particularly liturgical
music of the 15th and 16th centuries.
The day will take place in the Dutch Church in the City of London,
midway between Liverpool Street and Bank stations. Austin Friars is
off Old Broad Street. The church is an austerely beautiful postwar
building constructed on the site of one of the major churches of the
Augustinian Friars. Below the church is a comfortable and well-equipped
meeting room which has proved to be an ideal setting for TVEMF musicmaking.
