Solutions > support for double-byte fonts

Languages such as Chinese, Japanese and Korean create special problems for document creation and printing because the alphabet is too large to fit into the standard 256 PC character set. It means that fonts must use two bytes per character instead of the usual single byte.

RedTitan's long-standing expertise with double-byte font technology has been extended to our world-leading transform solutions.

Double byte support for Xerox transforms
With the RedTitan legacy migration system users who have invested considerable time and effort in coding double-byte documents are no longer tied to their out-dated Xerox line printers. Legacy Xerox documents that deploy double-byte fonts can now be easily converted for running on new printers, such as Océ, Lexmark, IBM, Siemens and Xerox network printers. Most importantly, the conversion is achieved without wasting any time on recoding of host applications.

The RedTitan advantage over other migration systems is that documents are not ‘frozen in time’. The development kit allows users to edit and debug the original forms and JSLs and create new jobs.

Value-added features include the option to convert Xerox documents to viewing/archiving formats such as PDF and TIFF. Data can also be stripped out from the Xerox datastream into comma separated format for spreadsheets and to XML for electronic document publishing applications.

Double byte support for PCL transforms
Using RedTitan's PCL transform tool, escapeE, double byte font support is available for documents output with a PCL printer from any Windows application (e.g. Microsoft Word). The job can then be run to a PCL printer or transformed into a wide range of other formats, such as PDF, TIFF, PNG, IMG, AFP, XML, CSV.

According to Peter Henry, RedTitan President, “Now that throughput of the newer PCL and PostScript printers makes an attractive alternative to DJDE/LCDS machines, we have been asked by many of the bigger financial institutions on the Pacific rim to provide a migration path. These new features will protect their investment in coding for Asian and Far eastern languages.
